Kiwi

Care and Handling

Availability - Green Giant® Fresh Kiwi is available year round.

Selection - If using immediately, select kiwi which gives slightly when pressure is gently applied. If one desires to keep kiwi on hand for a few days or weeks before serving, select those which are firm to the touch. In general, the more firm the kiwi, the tarter it will be.

Storage - If purchased firm, Kiwi can be stored at room temperature for up to eight weeks. If purchased ripe, Kiwi will last a little longer than a week in the refrigerator.

Preparation - To prepare kiwi for consumption, simply wash fruit in cool water, and then slice in half. Remove fruit with a spoon. Kiwi can also be diced, sliced, or quartered. The skin is usually removed, but you can eat it for added nutrition.

Cooking - Kiwi is often used as a garnish in a number of recipes. Substitute diced kiwi for blueberries in your favorite muffin batter, top fruit salads with sliced kiwi, or add to a blender filled with ice and strawberries to create a vitamin packed smoothie.

Freezing - To freeze kiwi, wash, and gently rub to remove excess fuzz. Place whole fruit in storage bags and seal airtight. As the texture may change due to freezing, it is best to use kiwi which have been frozen in cooked deserts or casseroles.
